John Snell '87 Named Assistant Athletic Director

BEREA, Ohio--Baldwin Wallace University has announced that John Snell '87 will join the athletic staff as Assistant Athletic Director.  Snell has resigned his position as head football coach.

The appointment of Snell to the athletic department post will support both the department and BW's more than 700 student athletes. Snell's new responsibilities will include NCAA compliance, as well as recruitment and retention.

"The University is grateful to John for his outstanding leadership and service to our student athletes, as well as our community, over his 23 years as an assistant and head coach," said Kris Diaz '78, BW director of athletics. "We look forward to the contributions he will make in this new capacity.

"A nationwide search for a new BW head football coach will begin immediately," continued Diaz. "We expect to attract a strong field of applicants and the success of our student athletes on the field, in the classroom and in life will guide our search."

Snell recently completed his 23rd season as a coach in the football program at his alma mater. He first served as an assistant coach for the Yellow Jackets and following his appointment as BW head coach in 2002, Snell compiled a 92-60 career record.

Prior to returning to his alma mater, Snell coached at the University of Rochester (1987-88 and again from 1992-94), at Rutgers University (1988-90) and the University of Buffalo (1990-92). Snell is a native of Albion, New York and graduated from Albion High School in 1983.
